If you were considering getting a nose job, you’ll probably bring pictures to your first surgeon’s appointment to discuss the possibilities, the risks and the desired aesthetic. Because you are the one who is going to live with said nose sitting on your face so it’s pretty important to hash it out and make an informed decision before proceeding.
If you are considering gender affirming procedures, the same logic should apply. But finding pictures or reproductions of bottom parts is not an easy feat. There is the “adult content” pages, which are not a place designed to make informed medical decisions. Or the patients blogs on some recesses of the web. But if you don’t know about them, you are left with very little content to base your decision upon.
This is when the gender affirming procedure toolkit comes to the rescue. It contains five models : one of a trans man who has been on testosterone for 7 years. One of a trans man who has had a metoidioplasty with a vaginectomy. One of a trans woman who has had a vaginoplasty. One of a trans man who has had a phalloplasty. And lastly one of a non binary person who has had a nullification. These are a good conversation starter to accompany folks who are questioning, trans or enby.
But of course they are just five examples and many more are needed. That is why the 3D genital database exists. To present more models, more bodies, more stories. So that people who need it can see what a metoidioplasty looks like with or without preserving the internal labia. With or without neo-testicles. The more info, the better! I was planning on adding more models in the database, traveling to New York and Boston to get different results from different surgeons but… the 2025 election South border of Canada happened and the project is currently on hold – to preserve everyone’s safety. So the database is not completed. All the models that should be into it are not. But still, many are, so while it’s not public yet, if you need to access it to accompany some of your patients/ users, please shoot me a message, I’ll give you access.
If you know how to collect more representations of gender affirming procedures without putting anyone at risks, get in touch, I want to hear from you!
If you have some funds that you can spare, send them my way, 15 casts are currently waiting to be 3D scanned and put in the database- You can chip in the Zeffy piggy bank.
And also know that there is an open letter you can currently sign if you live in Quebec to request better funding so gender affirming surgery are easier and faster to access. End the discriminatory law driving a gender-affirming surgery wait time crisis in Quebec
